The Good Fight

Sad day.

We are so saddened to hear of the executions of Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran. Our thoughts are with their families and friends.

We would also like to acknowledge and applaud the tireless work of the legal teams who fought – right to the final moment – to save these men’s lives.

It is a none too subtle reminder of why our work as lawyers is so vitally important. Sometimes politics prevails over the rule of law – but we should never give in.

Prologue

Hello, and welcome to my humble blog!

This blog has been in the works for a long time now, but finally it is out here, in cyberspace. I’m really excited to start writing.

To read more about the purpose of my blog, you can click on my About page.

To start off with, I thought it might be fun to give you five facts about me:

1. I am a Christian.
‘Christian’ means “little Christ”, or “imitator of Christ”. That is what I am, not by my efforts but by the grace of God. Jesus is the centre of my life, and I live for Him.

2. I play in a symphonic/power metal band called Euryale.
You can check us out on Facebook. We’ve done a few live shows, played (and won) a few competitions, but we haven’t recorded our EP yet. That’s in the works – keep an eye out! P.S. I’m the keyboardist who somehow always ends up (literally) in the shadows on stage.

3. I love stories, fairytales, folktales, myths…you name it.
In case that wasn’t obvious from my “About” page. More specifically, I’m interested in storytelling – the passing on of universal stories from generation to generation, all over the world. Being an aspiring writer, the enduring power of stories is something that fascinates me. Musical notes are a great passion of mine, but words have power.

4. I am a lawyer.
As I said, words have power!

5. I am passionate about refugees, poverty, slavery and the environment.
As a Christian, many of my beliefs and values are informed by my faith. I am passionate about many social justice issues, but these are some that are very close to my heart. Right now my work doesn’t make a direct difference in these areas, but I’m hoping to get more involved in the near future.

There’s much more to be said about me, but I won’t bore you with the details. This blog isn’t really about me, so much, but topics that I’m interested in.

So…next post, let’s get into it!
